Partnerships and Community

Gilead is dedicated to developing innovative medicines for life-threatening illnesses – and we recognize that it takes more than medicine to address challenges people and communities face.

That’s why we work with organizations around the world to launch programs that help improve access to care by eliminating barriers and advancing education.

Supporting Disease Screening

Viral hepatitis is a serious public health threat and is also a focus area under the Healthy China 2030 Initiative. Gilead has been supporting nationwide disease screening and testing programs since 2019, with the goal of improving diagnosis and treatment rates, enhancing public awareness, helping eliminate stigma and reducing social discrimination in line with China's hepatitis prevention and treatment plan.

Advancing Academic Exchanges

Gilead supports medical exchanges and research to help improve diagnosis and treatment of life-threatening diseases. Since the end of 2018, through our corporate giving program, Gilead has supported HIV awareness education in the Liangshan area on the prevention of perinatal transmission (PMTCT), and the capacity building of local primary care teams in diagnosis and treatment. This project is initiated and executed by the Chinese Association of STD and AIDS Prevention and Control. Healthcare providers with experience in the prevention of perinatal transmission travelled to Liangshan Prefecture from different provinces to provide guidance and improve care.

Rolling Out Public Education

Since 2017, Gilead China has carried out extensive, continuous and diversified disease education on chronic HBV, HCV and HIV.

Since 2019, Gilead has supported HIV prevention campaigns among youth jointly launched by China Youth Daily and industrial associations in the HIV prevention and treatment fields. Through disease education lectures in universities and other communities, young people receive information about HIV and how to prevent transmission. Gilead also sponsors the Chinese Foundation for Hepatitis Prevention and Control in creating the science education manual What We Need to Know About Chronic Hepatitis B, distributing the publication to more than 200 hospitals across the country.

Providing Voluntary Service and Donations

At Gilead, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we live and work.

We encourage our employees to give back to their communities and regularly volunteer in underserved parts of the city. The company has provided financial support to 150 children affected by HIV. Gilead has also funded a program that covered expenses for medical care for all the children living with HIV who meet the medical condition in Linfen Red Ribbon School.
